Dave Grohl Young Foo Fighters

Grohl instantly returned to the boundaries of Queens of the Stone Age, drumming on their 2013 album...Like Clockwork, after the Foo Fighters announced their break in 2012. Additionally, he committed himself into making a documentary on the famed Sound City recording facility in Los Angeles. The film premiered to favorable reviews in early 2013 and was supported by a soundtrack titled Sound City: Real to Reel. The album included Grohl-directed jams with a range of Sound City veterans, as well as Paul McCartney. Not shortly after the album's release, the Foo Fighters announced the end of their break and the start of production on a new album.

Dave Grohl shattered his leg last month after he fell off the stage during a Foo Fighters performance in Gothenburg, Sweden. Following the cancellation of a run of European performances, the band returned to action this weekend in Washington, D.C., where Grohl played from a big light-up throne while wearing a purple leg cast. According to Consequence of Sound, new video from the show sheds light on the throne's origins. Grohl claims that he created the plan while sedated on morphine and oxycontin in the hospital—as seen by the image below. Grohl recounts his shattered leg in the following video:

Grohl builds elegantly to the 32nd note fill crescendo by laying into the legendary bass pattern with a single stroke snare roll and adds skillfully timed crashes, toms, and space â a really superb example of appropriating a drumming cliche and making it one's own.

Flams are another drumming instrument that Dave Grohl uses with a unique touch on the drums.

If he made a single error during the recording process, everything was reset to the beginning and he would attempt again, regardless of how far into the piece he was at the time.

'Watching my children begin to play music and learn to sing or play the drums transports me back to when I was their age, listening to records and learning by ear,' he revealed of his new work.
