We've seen a variety of capabilities in the text/template package, along with examples of how to use them. The html/template package has all of the same features as this package. By enabling auto-escaping and context-sensitive sanitization of inputs, html/template outputs are safe from cross-site scripting. Use the html/template package when utilizing templates in a web context where the output is HTML.
If you're decorating a blog, for example, you might build a loop.php file that works nicely for marking up entries. However, you plan ahead and call it with additional context specifiers in your template files later - for example, on the index page, you call get template part('loop','index'); on the single template, you call get template part('loop','single'); on archive pages, you call get template part('loop','archive'); and so on. This makes it very simple to mark up the loop on your archive pages differently than the home page in the future: simply create a loop-archive.php template and it will be used instead of the general loop.php. The secret behind get template part(), however, is in the function locate template(), which looks for the file mentioned in the theme directory first, then the parent directory (if one exists). This is quite helpful when creating plugins. I defined a new post type in one of my plugins and built a loop template file for it in my plugin directory. However, I'd like to let themes that use my plugin to alter my markup if they so desire. This is where locate template() comes in handy.
